Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres

The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is a semi-slick tyre for the racetrack, where it was developed. As a follow-up to the highly popular Pilot Sport Cup, it had big footsteps to fill - and Michelin a reputation to uphold. It was only natural that the French manufacturer would spend a long time on the tyre's development: the vehicles of the target clientele are becoming ever more aggressive and require tyres that can safely accommodate the upper limits of their performance range.

The editors of German magazine "Autobild sportscars" compared the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 with its predecessor and found its lap times to be better - Michelin claims a 50% reduction in time. During cornering, the newly-configured outer shoulder regions maintained a good adherence to the tarmac. Two different tread compounds are distributed over different areas of the tread, with the outer part featuring strongly interconnected elastomers for maximum grip and the inner part responsible for good steering response. Even though, as a semi-slick tyre, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 is mainly intended for use in dry weather, it features a deeper tread than its predecessor for improved safety in wet conditions.
