The Volkswagen Caddy that has been available since 1983 is actually a commercial vehicle but on the basis of a passenger car. It has been around a few years longer, but only in North America as the pick-up variant of another model. The European generation was available from 1983 on with three motorisations. In 1995 the next generation followed with a leisure activity vehicle that was manufactured in Spain - after all it was derived from the Seat Inca. The range of engines grew and in 1996 a pick-up that was very similar to the koda Felicia Pick-up was added. In 2003 Volkswagen brought the third Caddy generation on the market which was based on the Golf V and the Touran. The model was no longer just a commercial vehicle, instead, starting 2004, it was offered as passenger car version - the Caddy Life. It has seven seats and is marketed as a people carrier. In 2005 Volkswagen and the BILD newspaper offered the so-called Volks-Caddy with a significant saving. There was a choice of three metallic colours for the body and three motorisations with up to 105 bhp. The Volks-Caddy was extraordinarily successful which led to delivery times of six months.
